The World Plant-Based Taste Awards 2021 are open for submissions

The World Plant-Based Taste Awards 2021 will have 12 categories, including cooked, ambient, chilled and frozen, judged by vegan industry professionals.

Plant Based World Europe and FoodBev Media have launched a first-of-its-kind awards event for vegan food. The World Plant-Based Taste Awards 2021 are aimed to celebrate the flavourful foods pushing the boundaries in the vegan space globally.

Plant Based World Europe is a conference and expo dedicated to vegan food and businesses. After successful events in the US, it’ll be held for the first time in Europe on April 8 and 9, 2021 at London’s Business Design Centre.

There are a total of 12 categories, and they are open for entries now. Each submission will be taste-tested by a panel of plant-based industry experts — who will be announced soon — with five of the categories being judged live on the second day of the event, during the official World Plant-Based Taste Awards Ceremony. The other seven will be judged behind closed doors.

The deadline for submissions is February 19, 2021. The organisers are encouraging both established brands and exciting startups to enter the awards to highlight their newest and best-tasting innovations.

The 12 categories are as follows:

  1. Best plant-based sausage (cooked) — live
  2. Best plant-based burger (cooked) — live
  3. Best plant-based chicken alternative (cooked) — live
  4. Best plant-based seafood (cooked) — live
  5. Best plant-based cheese (chilled) — live
  6. Best plant-based convenience meal (cooked)
  7. Best plant-based milk (chilled)
  8. Best plant-based yoghurt (chilled)
  9. Best plant-based beverage (ambient/chilled)
  10. Best plant-based snack (ambient)
  11. Best plant-based dessert (chilled/frozen)
  12. Best plant-based confectionery (ambient)

Jonathan Morley, managing director of Plant Based World Europe, said: “We are incredibly excited to be hosting the Plant-Based Taste Awards at Plant Based World Europe in 2021. Taste is fundamental to our enjoyment of food and the plant-based sector has some of the most flavoursome products on the market right now. I can think of no better way to celebrate the incredible innovation taking place in this rapidly growing industry than with a dedicated awards platform.”

FoodBev Media’s senior awards marketing executive, Laura Nettle, said on its website: “We are delighted to be launching a brand new awards scheme that is one of the first of its kind in the plant-based industry. These exciting new awards will be celebrating taste in a sector that has seen substantial growth in recent years and will continue to grow in 2021 and beyond.”

Entrants can save 15% per entry as an early-bird discount if they submit their product by January 8, 2021. Exhibitors at the conference are also eligible for a £70 discount per submission as well.
